چکیده

Soluble components of type 8 adenovirus have been studied. Four different components were isolated by anion-exchange chromatography and purified by further chromatographic procedures, by zonal centrifugation, and by erythrocyte absorption and elution. The four components exhibited the following characteristics. (i) Fiber antigen was trypsin-resistant and functioned as incomplete hemagglutinin (agglutinated rat and human erythrocytes only in the presence of certain types of adenovirus antisera). (ii) The penton was trypsin-sensitive, exerted a cytotoxic effect, and also showed incomplete hemagglutination, being active in the presence of a majority of heterotypic adenovirus antisera studied. (iii) The group-specific hexon antigen reacted in complement fixation reaction and gel precipitation with

Characterization of avian adenovirus type-4 causing hydro-pericardium syndrome in broilers in Karachi, Pakistan

Avian adenovirus was isolated from naturally infected birds during 1990 to 2003 in the vicinity ofKarachi, Pakistan. The virus is known to cause hydro-pericardium syndrome (HPS) in poultry. The mortalitywas recorded 20-50% in commercial broilers. Fifty field samples were collected; however, six samples wereselected for molecular studies. These isolates were grown and characterized by cell cultu...

Nucleic Acid Synthesis in Types 4 and 5 Adenovirus-infected Hela Cells

Type 4 adenovirus infection of HeLa cells effected a marked increase in synthesis of the saline-soluble DNA fraction, but not the host-cell DNA (the water-soluble fraction). This was demonstrated by the marked increase in specific activity of saline-soluble DNA but not water-soluble DNA when P(32)-inorganic phosphate or sodium formate-C(14) was employed. When these isotopes were used to label c...

Antigenicity of adenovirus type 4 soluble antigens in man.

Adult volunteers immunized with soluble antigens derived from adenovirus type 1 suspensions had markedly fewer responses to infectious virus challenge than did control subjects (Kasel et al., Proc. Soc. Exptl. Biol. Med. 117:186, 1964). A study was therefore undertaken to determine the antigenic potency in man of a preparation containing soluble antigens of type 4 virus. This communication desc...

I. ANTIGENIC RELATIONSHIP OF VIRuS-STRuCTURAL PROTEINS TO VIRUS-SPECIFIC SOLUBLE ANTIGENS FROM INFECTED CELLS*

Infection of mamm~.lian cells with agents of the adenovirus group elicits production of at least three major soluble antigens. These proteins have been separated on the basis of their immunological, biological, and physiochemical properties into: (a) a group-specific antigen common to all adenovirus types; (b) a type-specific antigen unique for each type; and (c) a toxin-like material which als...

Comparative studies on the soluble components of adenovirus types 9 and 15 and the intermediate strain 9-15.

Five different soluble components of adenovirus types 9, 9-15, and 15 have been identified. These are: (i) a slowly sedimenting, trypsin-resistant, incomplete hemagglutinin (HA). (This component was demonstrable by hemagglutination-enhancement (HE) tests in the presence of heterotypic antisera against members of Rosen's subgroups II and III, but not of subgroup I); (ii) a slowly sedimenting, tr...
